The Coastal Redwoods near Santa Cruz, CA
The coastal redwoods, known scientifically as Sequoia sempervirens, are the tallest trees on Earth. They can live for up to 2,000 years and thrive in the moist, foggy conditions found along the California coast. Their impressive height can reach over 350 feet, while their trunks can have a circumference of more than 20 feet. This unique coastal habitat provides the ideal environment for their growth, as the fog helps to maintain moisture levels in the soil.
